COMMUNICATE Before heading into your dorm or new apartment, it’s always a good idea to communicate with your roommate, whether they be a new roommate, or a friend. Whether you have known them for a while or not, see what one another has to bring into your new space so you can save time and money!

PICK A THEME

When you get through the first step, communication, you can settle on a bunch of different things regarding your dorm or apartment. Start by settling on a few different colors that you think will look well together in your new space. Wall decorations? Carpeting?? Bedding???

Even the slightest coordination with these things can totally change the way your room looks and feels.

Tip: Bring a little life to your new apartment or dorm by adding in a pop of green! Look at our DIY Succulent guide.

ORGANIZE Having organizing systems and options in your room can save you a huge amount of time as well as give your place the boost it needs in the way it looks. Having your things tucked away creates more space, leaving your (most likely) small place looking a lot larger than it actually is. Nothing is worse than looking around and feeling as if you’re being buried by your belongings in your tiny dorm room; this is a tactic that will most definitely have you feeling relieved.

STAY CLEAN It is so easy to get a little messy when you start living on your own. You don’t realize how much of a mess everything can be whether you’re living in a dorm, suite and especially in your own apartment. It’s crazy how quickly a kitchen can go from 0-100 even if you thought you were just going to make some boxed mac ‘n cheese. Keeping your stuff cleaning or even just giving yourself one day a week to binge-clean will not only make you feel better but also make your place look 100% better.
