If anyone knows anything about this hotspot, it’s that Jack loves Freda. Walking in, the place is similar to many Nolita cafes, though it still maintains its own signature charm. The whole restaurant is based around Jack’s love for his wife, Freda. Even the sugar packets steal my heart, with sayings like “Jack loves Freda”, “Hello my sweet” and “Hug More”.
I had perused this menu many times in the past, but I still find myself undecided on what to order for my first meal at the restaurant with years of built up expectations, but I said what the hell and ordered the green shakshuka.
While it’s my first time trying green shakshuka, I must say I prefer the traditional form of the baked egg dish with red sauce; the green seems a bit blander and watery for my liking. As is it my first time trying this form of the meal, I can’t blame Jack’s Wife Freda for my subpar satisfaction. This being said, I do still enjoy it and finish most of the dish along with a side of pita bread. But the next time I will be heading over, I will definitely be going back for the delicious mint lemonade and the orange marmalade pancakes that my sister ordered; the pancakes are perfectly fluffy and topped with orange marmalade, cream and honey syrup. This is definitely one of the dishes that makes this restaurant all the craze in Manhattan.
If you’re a fan of Mediterranean food and desire a twist on traditional brunch meals, head over to Jack’s Wife Freda where you can feel the love in the air and get a taste of it in the food.
